Tickets On Sale For Studio Ghibli Stage Adaptation At The Barbican

Following a sell-out world premiere season at the Barbican, My Neighbour Totoro returns to the east London arts centre to captivate audiences both young and old. 

Winner of six Olivier Awards and five WhatsOnStage Award, this magical show was described by The Stage as "a big healing hug" and "utterly beguiling".

Incorporating puppetry, dance and performance the stage production returns to London from Tuesday, November 21, 2023 to Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The whimsical fantasy is a collaboration between Joe Hisaishi, who wrote the original film score to the 1988 animation, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Improbable and Nippon TV. 

The stage adaption is written by Tom Morton-Smith, directed by Phelim McDermott and features puppetry by Basil Twist.

Joe Hisaishi's original film score has had a reworking by composer Will Stuart (who has worked with the likes of Shirley Bassey, Paloma Faith and Cerys Matthews).

My Neighbour Totoro tells the tale of sisters Satsuki and Mei who spend a summer in the countryside to be close to their mother who is recovering from an illness.

As the sisters get acquainted with their surroundings, Mei meets a creature she calls Totoro who is the ancient protector of the forest who whisks the girls away on a spirit and sprite-filled adventures in this delightful coming of age story.

Ticket sales for the show's premier season broke the Barbican's record for most tickets sold in one day, so don't leave it too long to grab yours.
