1 Three Sheets x Sweeties Colab, King’s Cross

For the bank holiday, acclaimed Hackney cocktail bar Three Sheets will bring 90s-inspired cocktails to Sweeties at the Standard Hotel London, in King’s Cross. With an eccentric glamourous dress code and a Belvedere Vodka cocktail list, the nights will be filled with chic styles, sweeping London views and a buffet of music, from a guest pianist and vocalist performing classic 80s, 90s and 00 RnB covers along side guest DJs.

2 London Transport Museum's Art 1938 Tube Ride

All aboard the London Transport Museum’s beautifully restored red Art Deco 1938 Tube train to travel to June 2, 1953, the year Queen Elizabeth was crowned. Departing from Acton Town Tube station, which will be decorated in vintage festive bunting, a Grenadier Guard (just an actor in a costume actually) will talk visitors through the preparations for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation before hopping on the train to Uxbridge, a return journey lasting a little over an hour.

3 Hampton Court Palace’s Tulip Festival

The annual explosion of floral colour is back as Hampton Court Palace’s 110,000-odd tulip bulbs open up in full bloom. These dramatic displays take over the palace’s formal gardens and cobbled courtyards. Rare tulips are amongst the flowers, so visitors can see what would have been flowering in the times of former residents, Queen Mary II and King William III. There are also new varieties of Tulip on display including the 3,000 wine-toned blooms that will cascade down from the steps and parapet of the iconic Wine Fountain courtyard.

4 Crown to Couture, Kensington Palace

Pitting modern day red carpet garb against the fashions of the Royal Court in the 18th century, Crown to Couture is Kensington Palace’s biggest exhibition to date. See the outfits worn by pop royalty of the likes of Lizzo and Lady Gaga displayed alongside historic costume drawing parallels between the fashion worlds of now and then. With more than 200 objects, the exhibition features iconic looks of present day as well as fine examples of 18th century court dress, as well as fashion rules and pointers on design influences and on the messages outfits can deliver.

5 Between the Bridges, South Bank

The alfresco entertainment spot and bar returns for yet another season just in time for the early May bank holiday. For the first weekend of the season, the Thames-side bar has a drag brunch featuring RuPaul Drag Race UK season two winner Lawrence Chaney, as well as four nights of pop, 90s bangers and disco tune to see you through the bank holiday. Don’t forget, there’s that cracking view of the London Eye and street food vendors aplenty.

6 Matilda the Musical, West End

Now a Netflix production, Matilda The Musical is the long-running, award winning (101 awards to be exact) adaptation of the Roahl Dahl classic by Tim Minchin. On stage now for more than 10 years, the West End production has extended bookings through to May 2024. Already seen it? What about Winnie the Pooh The Musical, which is on until May 21 in Hammersmith, or Frozen at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Mamma Mia! or Back to the Future which is very true to the films.

Punchdrunk’s Ascension Party, Woolwich

For one night, The Burnt City – a goliath of immersive theatre that take up the entirety of three warehouse spaces - invites audience to party on as the world of Troy falls. For one night, quaff cocktails as you watch cabaret, dance to live DJs and discover immersive bars at this one of a kind evening located in an incredibly elaborate set.
