Interior design was once just seen as a very exclusive service, however My Bespoke Room, a new website and interior design service that launched last week, is set to change that

My Bespoke Room was set up by Diana Greenhalgh and Laura Simpson who between them have 18 year’s experience in creative industries, including five working as interior designers to friends and family. With more people preferring to improve their properties than sell, Diana and Laura identified a gap in the marketing for an accessible and savvy home improvements and interior design business. So with that in mind, they set up My Bespoke Room. Through the website, the duo will design and source furniture for your home, for £75 per room. Start by filling in a short questionnaire about your room, what you’re looking for, the styles you like. Then My Bespoke Room will get back to you with a mood board and virtual shopping list, picking from a selection of top suppliers, big retailers and small independent shops. It will give you multiple options for each item so you can choose your favourites and the price range that suits you, and you can buy directly through the site.

Alongside the Bespoke Room design service, My Bespoke Room will also be launching the simple and savvy Snap and Source service, which allows you to photograph and upload interior items you like or are inspired by while on the move in a similar way to Pinterest. However picking up where Pinterest leaves off, My Bespoke Room will source them for you for £30 an item.

Diana and Laura’s 5 top tips for transforming a room:

1 Transforming your room should be like applying makeup. Make sure your base is right first by ensuring your walls and flooring are appropriate. A common mistake with dark rooms is trying to make them feel lighter, however we have found its best to enhance them by making them feel cosy and warm.

2 Create a ‘wow’ factor in a room by choosing one focal item such as an oversized mirror, a beautiful pendant light, a great piece of art and work around that. For example in a bedroom your bed is the focal point so invest in it, as well as great bed linen. Don’t forget if you are working around a piece of art, make sure it is hung properly at eye level.

3 Vary the type of light you have in a room to change the mood easily. Think about mixing it up by having a selection of ceiling lights, table lamps and candles to create different moods.

4 We all know that cushions and throws are a fun and can be a relatively cheap way to update a room but don’t forget a rug can dramatically transform a room. They are great for creating zones and making the room feel more complete and comfortable.

5 Plants give life to a room. Don’t underestimate the power they have to transform the look and feel. If you’re not green-fingered then faux plants are a great solution and now there are some great artificial replicas at affordable prices out there.
