I went to a brasserie in south Kensington for an evening of delicious French food.

South West 7 Brasserie is right next to Gloucester Road tube station and can be found inside of Millenium Gloucester Hotel.

The hotel itself is beautiful with high ceilings, chandeliers and walls lined with artwork.

To start the meal, staff brought us a complimentary appetiser of a cherry tomato filled with guacamole – a lovely touch to begin the evening.

We were also brought some warm bread and butter which is something that always gives an eatery brownie points from me.

The menu is brimming with classic, French dishes such as beef bourguignon, coquilles meuniere and burgundy escargots.

But, to start I was excited to try the confit duck croquette.

It came with a spicy pineapple salsa and rocket which was great for cutting through the richness of the duck.

The duck itself was tender and juicy – it was a scrumptious first dish.

I then moved onto one of my favourite French meals, the coq au vin which was served with buttered mashed potatoes.

Coq au vin is red wine braised chicken with bacon, pearl onion, carrot and mushrooms.

The chicken was moist and flavourful and the sauce was thick, rich and meaty.

I adore mashed potatoes and was thrilled with how creamy and soft they were.

I washed down the meal with a crisp glass of sauvignon blanc which might not be traditional with coq au vin but was perfect for me.

Staff at the restaurant were friendly and attentive, regularly checking in and making sure we had everything we needed.
