A Spitalfields restaurant recently added to the Michelin Guide will launch a series of delicious weekend brunches.
Found on Fashion Street, Maene will launch Sunday Side Up this weekend on October 15.
The Brunch series features a different guest chef taking over the kitchen – and sound system - each week.
Each chef will put their own spin on a weekend brunch, taking over the food menu, drinks options and the music playlist.
Dom Fernando from Soho’s Paradise will be the first guest chef in the kitchen and he will prepare dishes made with fiery Sri Lankan flavours.
Other chefs and kitchen teams confirmed include African restaurant group Tatale creator Akwasi Brenya-Mensa (Oct 29) who will bring contemporary Pan-African dishes to the table and Southern food purveyors Decatur (Nov 12) which will serve up seafood boils, oysters and frozen cocktails.
Chef and author Nargisse Benkabbou (Nov 26), will create modern Moroccan fare, and Amstedam-inspired Snackbar owner Freddie Janssen (Dec3) will make moreish fast food embellished with cocktails and Mexican-inspired cocktails.
Each guest chef will collaborate with Maene owner Nick Gilkinson to create five brunch dishes while adding their spin on Maene signature plates such as the gnocco fritto, Cornish mussels and Mersea oysters.
Sunday Side Up runs 10am to 4pm and it is expected the series will be a permanent fixture in the new year.
Mæne opened on Fashion Street in March this year and is found perched on top of a colossal yoga and wellness centre housed in a 14,000 square foot, four-story Victorian warehouse.
A modern British bistro, it is the latest venture by Gilkinson, who also opened Whitechapel Gallery’s Townsend.
The all-day dining restaurant comes with a large rooftop terrace and a menu that uses the seasons’ bounty and British produce; Cornish mussels in a butter sauce, whipped Sussex ricotta and Mersea oysters for example.
It was added to the Michelin Guide last month with the inspectors noting its interiors which are a nod to the venue’s former factory life, and for its “unpretentious quality” of the cooking which allows “prime ingredients to shine”.
