Carlotta, the fifth flagship restaurant by the Big Mamma group, has opened its doors to fans of authentic Italian food.

With Chef Armando from Napoli at the helm, the Marylebone restaurant places itself as a den for Neopolitan and Sicilian flavours, presented with an American touch. His cooking inspiration, he says, comes partly from his Nonna Gina and Alfredo Viazzi.

The menu includes Rosé Veal tartare, Tempura Shrimp Cocktails, Penne Alla Vodaka, among other seafood and barbeque items. The cherry on the cake (literally!) is a supersized dessert in the form of a giant ten-tiered choco fudge cake.

Its Vegas-style opening party gave us a peak into the elegant world of Italian boxers, artists and aristocrats whose lives are celebrated in the portraits on its walls.

There was a casino, a jazz band and an Elvis-impersonator to officiate weddings, true to its theme.

The décor exhibited style in every corner, with the dining room adorned with leather furniture and booths and a soft suede ceiling.  Two bar areas serve a combination of cocktails, whiskies and other bar staples.

It’s basement is designed to replicate the “80s midnight blue velvet paradise” vibe, with even the washroom built like something out of a neo-noir film.

Big Mamma’s most recent success was the Jaccuzi restaurant on Kensington High street that opened in January this year. With Carlotta, it now hopes to dominate the Italian food space in London and seeing the rush on its preview night, the chain might just have another hit on its hands.
