The best places to buy a Christmas tree across London

While many Christmas tree pop ups open late November, now's the time to think about pre-ordering a tree which will often be home delivered, although its a lovely morning spent shopping for the perfect one at a market.

West London

1 Shoots & Leaves, various locations

The team goes to great lengths to visit the farms and hand pick every Christmas tree. You can collect it, have it delivered, order it online and even opt for the installation service. Opens November 24, and you can order online too.

2 Clifton Nurseries, Maida Vale

One of London’s oldest garden centres, Clifton Nurseries in Maida Vale has been around since 1851. Here you’ll find Nordmann firs grown in sustainable forests in Denmark. The garden centre also stocks unusual gifts, festive cards, wrap and accessories, tree decorations, Christmas lights and, of course, plenty of indoor and outdoor plants and pots.

3 The Christmas Forest, various locations

The Christmas Forest group provides beautiful Christmas trees to Londoners while giving a little bit back to Mother Nature. For every tree sold a new tree is planted in Africa through Tree Aid. Locations are London-wide, with a west London site in Ealing from 24 November. Delivery and installation available.

4 Pines and Needles, various locations

Christmas trees are usually stocked here from the start of December.  Choose from high quality Fraser Firs, Nordman Firs and Noble trees – all from British growers and chosen specifically for their full foliage – available from 3ft to 11ft. If you have a smaller space, go for a Fraser Fir – slim, aromatic and non-drop. They also have a great range of Christmas decorations.

1 The Christmas Forest, various locations

A family-run business selling British-grown trees, The Christmas Forest has a number of south west London Christmas tree shops. 2 Chelsea Gardener

The Chelsea Gardener has a selection of fragrant Nordmann Fir Christmas trees with minimal needle drop in store typically from mid-November. The friendly team will help you choose your tree, available from 3ft to 12ft tall, and can also arrange home delivery and tree installation for you. 4 Neals Nurseries Garden Centre, Wandsworth

Capital Gardens, which has locations in Wandsworth and Alexandra Palace, has been selling Christmas trees for generations. Choose from cut Nordmann Firs, Noble Firs, Fraser Firs, Norway Spruces in all sorts of sizes, as well as smaller potted Blue Spruces. 5 Petersham Nurseries, Richmond

Petersham Nurseries Richmond stocks British grown Nordmann fir trees in a variety of sizes. 6 Battersea Flower Station

The multi award-winning Battersea Flower Station promises quality and value. They offer delivery on Christmas trees to most SW postcodes in December. Choose from non-drop Nordmann Firs as well as fragrant traditional Spruces (which tend to shed a few more needles but smell great) and potted trees. 1 Alan’s Plants Garden Centre, Greenwich

3 Greenwich Christmas Trees

Established in 1980, Greenwich Christmas Trees supplies some of the finest trees in the area, and even donate a Christmas tree to St Alfege Church every year. Pop up shop trading hours and dates are still TBC but plan a visit for the end of November.

5 Alleyn Park Garden Centre, West Dulwich

Alleyn Park Garden Centre’s stock of non-drop Nordmanns start arriving at the end of November. The trees are cut from quality, sustainable stock in Scotland and Denmark. You can also get potted and pot grown White Spruce, Norway Spruce and Nordmann Firs. Delivery available.

Pines and Needles spreads its spruces far and wide across the capital. In SE postcodes, find them at Brockwell Park (Nov 17-Dec 23), Crystal Palace Park (Nov 23-Dec 22) and Streatham and Marlborough Cricket Club on Dulwich Common (Nov 19-Dec 24). The Christmas tree shop is re-stocked every morning with dozens of hardy, non-drop Nordmann Firs, ranging from 3ft to 9ft, which have been freshly cut and delivered straight from the Pines & Needles plantations. The Christmas Forest cuts its trees as late in the season as possible to ensure freshness, they also plant a new tree in Africa for every tree sold. This small family business delivers premium grade Nordmann Fir Christmas trees to homes and businesses around London. One of London’s most prestigious garden centres is rolling in hundreds of freshly cut Christmas trees - order yours before the end of October. Make your way over to their nursery and pick out a Nordmann Fir (up to 10ft), Fraser Fir (up to 8ft), Norway Spruce (up to 8ft) or a pot-grown Nordmann. You can also order online, delivery is from Nov 25 and charges vary according to your postcode. You can also collect from the garden centre.
