The doors of the Greenwich Gem of a Pop Up Shop, in conjunction with Jewellery Week and Greenwich Hospital, opens at 8 Turnpin Lane on Saturday 7 June

Five very talented jewellery designer makers, W.T.Author Watches, Rie Tanabe for Flowerie88, Becky Dockree Jewellery, Barbora Rybarova and Ana Thompson Lab, are the winners of the Jewellery Week and Greenwich Hospital annual competition to win their own shop for a month. They have had just four days to set up shop – which promises to be a real treat for jewellery lovers. These five collections are all very different and offer a fresh and interesting retail mix to excite the shopper.

W.T.Author Watches
The ‘No. 1905’ is the first series of limited edition watches by W. T. Author. Every component has been designed and hand-finished exclusively by W. T. Author in Britain, and fitted with a Swiss made movement. This watch draws inspiration from the turn of the 20th Century and has been modernised with a beautiful enamel screw-down case back, the signature red aluminium crown embossed with the Author trademark and a Swiss made 513S calibre movement.

Becky Dockree Jewellery
This south London jewellery designer uses traditional etching techniques to create eye-catching designs, each is based on the female form to create a series of interlocking shapes.
‘Greenwich is such a magnet for a mixture of different people, known for it’s variety of attractions and bustling market,’ said Becky. ‘I am really interested to see how this eclectic group of people receive my brand and look forward to meeting the other local businesses.’

Flowerie88 by Rie Tanabe
This designer trained as a fashion designer as well as in silversmithing. Her unique pieces are delicate and elegant.
‘Greenwich is one of the most exciting, lively and artistic areas of London,’ said Rie. ‘I love the atmosphere and The Old Town Feel of this World Heritage Site that contrasts with the buzzing, energy of Greenwich created by the designer maker shops and market.’

Barbora Rybarova
This designer works with rough stones, often sourced from South America, to create edited and one off pieces.
‘The lively atmosphere of Greenwich, a centre for arts and crafts, with its cultural grandness leaves me inspired every time I visit,’ said Barbora.

Ana Thompson Lab
A place where new discoveries are made under a microscope and brought to life in precious materials, magnifying the magnificent.
‘Greenwich is a very busy and vibrant area – an excellent setting to showcase my designs,’ said Ana

Johnny Rocket, local legendary jewellery designer and one of the original ambassadors for Jewellery Week was one of the judges: ‘As in the previous years, the standard of entrants was startlingly high and the final five make a really exciting offer. It is especially great to see a watch brand amongst the winners – Greenwich being the home of time.’

Local jewellery designer and maker Charlotte Rudkin also judged the competition and commented, ‘The entries were all very interesting and impressive, from functional time pieces to beautifully handcrafted jewellery. Good luck to all the worthy winners!’

Della Tinsley, Director of Jewellery Week is full of praise for the winners: ‘We are delighted that such a strong group of jewellers are coming together in 2014, they are all very different from each other and will create a very desirable store to buy and commission exciting jewellery and watch design.’
