With Sunday March 19, 2023 just around the corner, now's the time to think about ways to spoil your mum or mother figure this Mother's Day. Treating her to a fabulous meal at one of these places would be a really good start.

1 Trullo, Islington

A neighbourhood Italian trettoria working with the seasons to serve fresh pasta, coal roasted fish and meat and plenty of understated elegance. Buzzy and informal enough without being too casual about it, you could treat your mum to a pre or post meal wine at the restaurant's new wine bar next door.

2 The Petersham, Covent Garden

Full of grace with an air of whimsical romance (punctuated with real-life wafts of jasmine scent), dining at The Petersham is like eating in the world's most luxurious and sublime garden centre cafe ever. Elegant ingredient-led seasonal dishes contend with an excellent wine list and the many bouquets of British-grown flowers to be the star of the show, and the alchemy of the three is divine. Petersham Nurseries has a similar venue, where diners sit in a greenhouse, filled with wild beauty.

4 Hotel Cafe Royal, Piccadilly

This West End hotel serves one of the most exquisite afternoon teas in London. Taken in the opulent Oscar Wilde Lounge, which is still in its original baroque 1800s glory (including wine stains on the ceiling’s paintings from raucous nights back in the day), the tea is a lavish affair and even comes with a pianist on the room's baby grand tapping out no-so-modern classics like Toto’s Africa while you feast.

5 Afternoon Tea At The Carlton Tower Jumeirah, Knightsbridge

Pamper your mum with a luxurious afternoon tea by 2019 World’s Best Pastry Chef Jessica Prealpato. It starts with duck egg and black truffle stuffed mini croissants and home-cured salmon sandwiches with roasted pine-nut cream cheese, whipped goat cheese mousse with Guiness crumble. Scones come classic and fancied up with dried grape and chocolate, served alongside a lemon merengue tart.

7 Lina Stores, Marylebone

The fifth location for the utterly charming Lina Stores, the Marylebone restaurant is an elegant, art deco-inspired affair that comes with a hefty dose of refined Italian flair and warmth. 8 Ochre at The National Gallery, Trafalgar Square

Housed in the wonderful National Gallery, Ochre is fit for its prestigious surrounds. It also has a new Sunday roast hitting the tables - just in time for Mother's Day. Fine cuts of meat slathered in freshly made condiments and come beef-fat roast potatoes, charred cabbage, buttery greens, and paired with something from the restaurant’s extensive wine list, a signature cocktail or something from the Bloody Mary trolley, which is an idea from heaven. You could also try an afternoon tea here too.

10 The Holland, Kensington

A relative newcomer to London by chef Max de Nahlik (ex- organic certified Duke of Cambridge, Islington). Another supreme pub recently recommended by the Michelin Guide, and the roast here is smashing. It's an elegant lunch made with seasonal produce of the likes of confit chicken leg or roast beef rump, with spiced brown crab on toast, or sweetcorn, tomato and miso butter with chili peanuts to start with.

13 The Lanesborough Grill, Hyde Park

A flawless affair, The Lanesborough Grill puts on a roast that is as grand as the hotel is. It's three superb, traditionally British courses, taken in a sumptuous dining room, which is as much of a feast as the actual meal. Aso a good spot for afternoon tea.
