A Dagenham Turkish restaurant has been named among the winners at a recent awards ceremony.
The Turkish Restaurant & Takeaway Awards (TURKA) celebrate the best of UK’s Turkish dining scene, and the Dagenham restaurant was among the eight London establishments which won their category.
Lara Grill on Whalebone Lane won the Best Takeaway South and East London award.
Serving up Turkish and wider Mediterranean fare with many dishes cooked over a charcoal grill, Lara Grill is open for dining in as well as take away.
In fact, the restaurant is airy and well lit, and with foliage hanging from around the sky light and a mix of plush bench seating and statement mirrors on the wall, the interiors are both inviting and a treat.
The menu offers as selection of hot and cold classic meze, from a selection of dips such as cacik, hummus, and babaganush to the crowd pleasing grilled halloumi, pan fried king prawns, and feta boregi.
For meaty mains, there is a wide selection of shish kebabs, doner kebabs and beyti – spiced minced chicken or lamb served with salad and rice.
Sharing platters are available offering a mix of grilled meats and hot and cold meze, and several varieties of pide are on offer too.
Vegetarians can feast well also, choosing from vegetable moussaka, a veggie shish, a vegetable and halloumi casserole or grilled halloumi and falafel for mains.
Lara Grill is joined by Ruya, which won Best Designed Restaurant, Best Value Restaurant winner Fez Mangal, and Best Turkish Restaurant in North and West London winner Melissa Restaurant in Edgware.
Olives and Meze, MANTL, Master Kebab and Fast Break Kozzy Café in Holborn were also among the London winners.
