A Forest Hill Indian curry house is among the winning London venues at the recent Asian Restaurant Awards 2023.
Long-time south London neighbourhood curry house Babur won the Best Restaurant of the Year - London Suburbs category at the award ceremony which was held in Manchester.
Babur has been a Forest Hill resident for more than 35 years, plating up north-eastern Indian dishes since 1985.
Diners can order from the a la carte menu or have the set lunch or feast on the restaurant’s Sunday buffet.
Reporter Emily Davidson visited the restaurant earlier this year and gave it 3.5 stars.
She commented that the restaurant plated up contemporary dishes such as griddled scallops and steamed lamb shoulder on beetroot rice, among more traditional, classic Indian curry house fare.
Emily also said that when visited, the restaurant was packed, adding: “it was clear it was as popular choice for many in the area.”
Michelin starred Quilon, on Buckingham Gate, won best Fine Dining Restaurant – London Region.
Quilon has served up south west coastal dishes since 1999, and has retained its Michelin star since 2008.
Serving weekend brunch, a la carte dishes, and a menu paired with beers, the restaurant plates up dishes such as coconut and coriander infused lobster broth, pan seared scallops in a turmeric sauce; and seafood moilee.
BKC – Biryani Kebab Chai won Best Newcomer. Just near Marble Arch, the central London restaurant specialises in Awadhi cuisine, such as kebabs, biryani and korma.
Mixing up traditional dishes with a contemporary touch, BKC’s menu if filled with the likes of tandoori chicken, house black dahl, dahi ke kebab which is a type of marinated dumplings, and vegetarian and meaty kebab platters.
Madhu’s, with restaurants in numerous five star hotels including The Savoy, The Landmark, and Rosewood London, as well as in the Natural History Museum, won Best Group Restaurant Of The Year.
