Barworks, the parent company of Hackney’s Mare Street Market, will open a second far bigger multi-purpose space in King’s Cross later this year.

When Mare Street Market King’s Cross opens in Lewis Cubitt Square this autumn, it will stretch across two levels, bringing together retail, dining, bar and co-working spaces together, in a space 70 percent larger than the already sizable first east London location.

Totalling 18,000 square feet, eight retailers – which have not yet been announced - will offer shopping and services while day-to-night hospitality and leisure brands will take up the remaining space that comes with indoor and alfresco seating for up to 700 covers.

This makes Mare Street Market King’s Cross the second largest retail venture in the canal-side neighbourhood’s history, eclipsed only by the 20,000 square foot SamsungKX experience store in the adjacent Coals Drop Yard.

James Rayner, Head of Retail at King’s Cross, said: “Mare Street Market’s multi-use model is exactly the kind of concept we want to pioneer and nurture as it aligns with the needs of our customers and residents. Flexible, mixed-use spaces like these represent a new frontier for retail and hospitality.”

Marc Francis-Baum, Founder of Barworks, added: “As a creative and vibrant corner of London, I can’t think of a better home for our second Mare Street Market. This space will be a gathering point for everyone in the King’s Cross community, whether that’s grabbing a coffee over a morning meeting, finding a record you can’t source anywhere else or catching up al fresco on a sunny evening with friends. This is a real opportunity to create a unique and magical place where anyone can meet, work, eat, drink, shop and enjoy life.
