For those - and there's many of you - on the eternal quest to find the best afternoon tea around, the verdict is out, and Knightsbridge is where they're at.

The glamorous west London neighbourhood was the big winner at the recent annual Afternoon Tea awards, with three of its most prestigious hotels claiming top spot in each of the categories, and other hotels receiving an Award of Excellence.

Held at the The Carlton Tower Jumeirah on Monday, March 27 and hosted by afternoontea.co.uk, teas were entered into three catagories.

Best Traditional Afternoon went to The Roseberry at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, created by award winning pastry chef Emmanuel Bonneau and winner of Bake Off: The Professionals 2018.

Taken in an exquisite room, it comes with hanging cakes stands, Devonshire clotted cream and delicate fillings and jams. It also has 29 different loose-leaf teas to choose from, if you don't fancy champagne, wine, beers or sparkling tea.

The judges commented that it was everything an afternoon tea should be, adding: "Great service, great food, great tea, in an amazing setting. It's actually incredibly hard to find anything to fault."

The Carlton Tower Jumeirah’s Tribute to Nature tea by Jessica Prealpato won the Best Contemporary Afternoon Tea.

Inspired by Kew Gardens, Prealpato's tea is a floral and botanical affair and her assortment of patisseries and cakes have been crafted to enhance the fruits' and ingredients' natural flavours.

According to the judges, the afternoon tea was a "fine dining experience", and one that was "unique" and which "takes your experience to the next level".

The Pret a Portea at The Berkeley took out the Best Themed Afternoon Tea, which no doubt will appeal to more than just the fashionistas.

Intricate cakes and pastries take the shape of things found in the fashion world - a designer bag, a button or a coat, for example. Just like fashion changes with the seasons, so too does this tea, with the menu changing every six months.

The judges noted that "the skill and artistry of everything served was impeccable", adding, "it was one of the best afternoon teas I've ever been to. The whole afternoon was a delight and the attention to detail really set it apart".
