SAINT JOHN BOSCO COLLEGE
Notice is given in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that Wandsworth Borough Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to Saint John Bosco College, Parkham Street, London, SW11 3DQ, from 1st September 2019.
It is proposed to open a resource base for up to 7 pupils aged 11 to 18 with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Social Communication Disorder (SCD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and announces the following detailed proposals for these purposes:
i) Wandsworth Local Authority will make referrals of pupils to the resource base on the basis of their educational needs as identified in their Education, Health and Care Plans. The College's normal admission criteria will not apply. The Saint John Bosco Governing Body will be the Admission Authority;
ii) the young people in the resource base will be included in the College's admission number of 180 per year group;
iii) pupils in the base will be on the roll of Saint John Bosco College and the College will be responsible for their educational provision and the management of the base;
iv) Wandsworth Council agreed funding for building adaptations from the Council's SEND Capital Provision Fund. These adaptations were completed over the summer holiday period 2018 to allow for the College to start a pilot resource base offer d uring the Autumn term 2018;
v) pupils placed in the Base will receive revenue funding via the national funding formula in line with other pupils in the school. In addition, the College will receive place funding and individual pupil top-up funding from the High Needs Block within the Dedicated Schools Grant.
This proposal is aimed at meeting the needs of young people who would benefit from a mainstream curriculum and environment, but who need highly personalised support that also considers their mental health and emotional needs.
