A34 TRUNK ROAD - TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A34 Trunk Road in the Counties of Hampshire and Oxfordshire and the Unitary Authority of West Berkshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to authorise:-
1) the phased (in sections) overnight closure of:

a) both carriageways of the A34 between M3 Junction 9 (A34/A272) and M40 Junction 9 (A34/A41);

b) both carriageways of the A30 connecting, and including, the north-west and south­east roundabouts at Bullington Cross Interchange (A303);

c) the roundabout at M3 Junction 9

(A34/A272);
d) all of the slip/link roads leading to and from the carriageways described in

a) and b) above, and the roundabout described in c) above;
e) all of the roads leading to and from both carriageways of the M40 at Junction 9

(A34/A41);
f) all of the gaps in the central reservation of the carriageways described in a) above;

g) all of the side roads at junction with the carriageways described in a) above, and the roundabout described in c) above; and

h) all of the bus stops adjacent to the carriageways described in a) above; and

2) the 24-hour closure of all the lay-bys adjacent to the carriageways described in 1) a) above.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake resurfacing and pothole repairs, road marking, stud replacement and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 7 months starting on or after Monday 22nd April 2019. The overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). For further details please note advanced on-road warning advice and refer to our website. The Order would come into force on 20 April 2019 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
Traffic affected by the closures in 1) a) - e) above would be diverted using other junctions of the M40 and A34, and by using the M3, M4,
A4, A40, A44, A303, A338, A339, A417, A418, A420, A423, A4130, A4142, B3047, B3330,
B3331, B3420, B4640, and Priors Court Road. Light and Non-Motorway traffic would additionally or alternatively use the A41, A30, A3090, A4095, A4260, B430, B3040, B4009, B4030, B4494, Winchester Hill, Christmas Hill, and, in Winchester, Wales Street, Easton Lane, Union Street, Eastgate Street, and Jewry Street. The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure(s) in force. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
