Dow Silicones Prepares for Maintenance Shutdown

Employees at the Dow Silicones plant in Barry are beginning preparations this week for a maintenance shutdown. During the shutdown the site will stop a number of its main production processes to facilitate inspections and overhaul work that will allow the plant to continue to run safely and reliably.

From Monday 1st April, machinery and equipment on the 160-acre site will be emptied, cleaned and thoroughly inspected as part of the company's commitment to safety, which in recent years has seen the Barry site win 10 consecutive gold awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The work is expected to be done over six (6) weeks (with the busiest period being the 8th April to 29th April). During this time the level of traffic is likely to increase slightly, and neighbours may experience some additional noise.

We are doing the following things in order to minimise noise:

1) Keeping noisy activities to daytime and early evening whenever possible;

2) Using advanced noise muffling barriers around our known trouble spots;

3) Carrying out fence line noise monitoring so that we can detect and react to noise issues more proactively.

If anyone in the community has any questions about the shutdown, we would encourage them to get in touch with us on 01446 732350 in daytime hours. We aim to complete the maintenance as quickly as we can but safety is a top priority for the business, so we want to ensure that all the work is completed to the highest standard possible.
