Statutory Public Notice - Council Tax Related
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
pursuant to Section 11b of the Local Government Finance Act 1992 that Rochford District Council by resolution dated 19th February 2019 in respect of the whole of the Rochford District Council area did determine: That the Council Tax Empty Property premium as specified in 11b of the Local Government Finance Act 1992 currently charged at 50% on long term empty properties be increased as follows: To 100% from 1st April 2019 for properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for 2 years or more; To 200% from 1st April 2020 for properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished between 5 and 10 years; To 300% from 1st April 2021 for properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for 10 years or more. The premium is charged in addition to the 100% Council Tax. The premium will not be charge where either of the statutory exemptions apply, namely; a) Where the property is left empty by a serving member of the armed forces, who is living elsewhere in accommodation provided by the Secretary of State for Defence; or where the property is the sole or main residence of a serving member of the armed forces, who is subject to a job related discount at an alternative address provided by the Secretary of State for Defence; or b) Empty annexes. The resolution takes effect from 1st April 2019.
