Wigan Council Woodend Assessment Centre
Wigan Council have received confirmation from Greater Manchester Police that they can now progress any civil claims made by people who stayed at Woodend Assessment Centre.
This follows the conclusion of the latest criminal investigation relating to Woodend which resulted in no convictions. The previous moratorium on progressing civil claims, in place because of the criminal investigations, has now been lifted.
James Winterbottom, director of children's services at Wigan Council, said:
"Following confirmation from Greater Manchester Police we are now in a position to review any ongoing civil claims. We have written to the legal representatives of the small number of claimants to inform them of the outcome of the criminal case and with a view to move claims forward by the end of December."
"We urge anyone who has not yet contacted the Council to seek legal advice in order that their potential claim can also be reviewed and progressed as appropriate within this timeframe".
