DISPOSAL OF HUMAN REMAINS
The Venerable Antony MacRow-Wood acting as Archdeacon of Dorset for this purpose has applied to the Bishop of Salisbury with the proposal to remove the legal effects of consecration from an area of land at the site of the former Dorchester Prison, North Square, Dorchester, Dorset.
The specification and drawings relating to this proposal can be inspected by contacting the developers: City & Country, Bentfield Place, Benfield Road, Stansted, Essex, CM24 8HL (01279 817882) by or before the 21st November 2018.
It is proposed that any exhumed remains discovered during the building work will be treated with reverence and re-interred within the cemetery of Poundbury Road, Dorchester in a marked area. The markings will reflect the nature of the interments. In addition, the burial site within the former prison wall will be marked with a permanent memorial reflecting the history of the site and the area of consecrated land. The personal representatives, or a relative, or the Commonwealth War Graves Commission of any deceased person believed to be buried there is eligible to give notice in writing of the intention to undertake the identification, removal and re-interment of the remains within two months from the date of the said notice, by contacting the Diocesan Registrar, Sue de Candole, at Minster Chambers, 42/44 Castle Street, Salisbury, SP1 3TX before the 21st November 2018.
