M3 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 1 TO 14) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the M3 Motorway in the Counties of Surrey and Hampshire, under Section 14(1)(a) and 14(1)(c) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order is to:-

1. authorise the overnight closure of-



(a) both carriageways of the M3 between Junction 1 (A316) and the centreline of Kitsmead Lane overbridge, all slip roads leading to and from this length;



(b) both carriageways of the M3 between the centreline of Kitsmead Lane overbridge and Junction 14 (M27 Junction 4), and all slip roads leading to and from this length; and



(c) the circulatory system at Junction 6 (Spur Road), Junction 9 (A34) and Junction 12 (A335)



2. impose a mandatory overnight 50mph speed limit on the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) above.



3. impose an overnight temporary 10mph speed restriction while traffic is escorted through the works area by a convoy system, on the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) above.



4. authorise the overnight suspension of the Motorway Regulations prohibiting use of the outside lane by HGVs the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) above.



These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake Programmed Cyclical Maintenance (drainage, lighting, signage, inspections and surveys, maintenance and clearance of vegetation, litter picking and clearance, road sweeping, emergency crossing point maintenance, road markings and road studs and clearance of injurious weeds). The duration of each closure will vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion. The programme of works will start on or after 8th July 2018.

Overnight closures of the M3 and connecting roads between Junction 3 and 14 will take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). Overnight closures and/or speed restrictions on the M3 and connecting roads between Junction 1 and 3 will take place between: Monday-Thursdays 22:00-05:30 Fridays 23:00-06:00



Saturdays 22:00 -06:00



Sundays 22:30 -05:30



(maximum periods).

The Order will come into force on 8th July 2018 and shall remain in force until 23rd December 2018.

Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted via other junctions of the M3, or using the M25, M27, A27, A30, A31, A34, A272, A287, A303, A308, A322, A327, A331, A335, A3090, B3040, B3041, B3049, B3335, B3349, and the B3420. The diversion route will vary depending on the closure in place. The temporary speed limits, closures and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period. This Order will revoke -

(a) The M3 Motorway (Junctions 2-14)



(Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic Order 2017;

(b) The M3 Motorway (Junction 2, Westbound Carriageway) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2017; and



(c) The M3 Motorway and the A316 Trunk Road (Junction 1, Slip Roads) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2018.
