SECTION 14(1) & (5) Notice of new Temporary Traffic Order

Witney, Downs Road area & A40 Temporary Traffic Prohibitions with change to speed limits Date of original order: 1 March 2018 Came into force: 5 March 2018 Order replaced: 16 April 2018 An order was introduced for the construction of a new roundabout on the A40 dual-carriageway adjacent to Downs Road overbridge (enabling access to the West Witney Development) which is anticipated to take until October 2018 to complete. The effect of the Order is temporarily to introduce the following restrictions: 5 March - 26 October 2018:

1) Sections of Downs Road & Main Road, Curbridge, Speed reduced to 30mph;

2) A40 Witney Bypass both carriageways - Speed reduced to 50mph then to 40mph overall between the Minster Lovell junction and points east of the Downs Road overbridge. Further variations to the speed limit will include reductions to 30mph as required for road narrowing and safety purposes as work progresses.
(The A40 will at times be reduced to single running lanes).

3) Downs Road closure (south of Witney Lakes) 21 May - 6 July 2018;

4) A40 Bypass night closures 10pm to 6am from A415 Ducklington to Asthall roundabout:

Sunday 22nd July for barrier works; Friday 27th July; Saturday 28th July; Sunday 29th July; Monday 30th July for asphalt surfacing; Tuesday 31st July for white lining. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road.
The alternative route for traffic affected by the Downs Road closure is via Burford Road, Deer Park Road, A4095 Bampton Road & vice-versa.
The alternative route for traffic affected by the A40 closure is via the A415 to Witney, A4095 to the B4047 Burford Road, to Asthall and vice versa.
The Oxfordshire County Council (Witney and Various Parishes, A40 and Downs Road Area) (Temporary Prohibition of Through Traffic and Speed Reductions) Order 2018 made 1 March 2018 is revoked/replaced.
This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner (Ref: T5325/AC)
