The Town & Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997
Notice is hereby given that a New Tree
Preservation Order has been made by the
Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National
Park Authority as planning authority for:
TPO Title: Loch Lomond and The Trossachs
National Park Authority Tree Preservation
Order Number 10 of 2018
TPO Location: National Park Gateway Centre,
Ben Lomond Way, Balloch, West
Dunbartonshire G83 8QL
Community Council Area: Balloch And
Haldane CC
Reason for making this Tree Preservation
Order
On or around 17th March 2018 circa 0.17 ha
of established native woodland, comprising
mainly birch and alder with occasional oak,
bird cherry, rowan and sycamore, on the north
shore of Drumkinnon Bay, Loch Lomond was
felled without the permission of the relevant
land managers. The woodland forms a
prominent backdrop to Drumkinnon Bay and
hosts a number of arboreal visitor experiences
which contribute to the amenity of the area.
The felling has had a significant negative
impact on the amenity and setting of
Drumkinnon Bay, and the tourist destination
of Loch Lomond Shores.
The majority of woodland affected by this
Order is recorded as lowland deciduous
woodland on the Native Woodland Survey of
Scotland. The woodland comprises a range of
age classes from sapling to mature specimen
of broadleaves with occasional conifers.
A significant proportion of the woodland is
recorded as Long Established Plantation
Origin on the Ancient Woodland Inventory.
The area affected by this Order forms part of a
larger woodland linking the loch shore to the
wider woodland running south and forms a
woodland habitat corridor linking the loch
shore with the woodlands to the north and
west. The woodland also creates a transition
from the urban setting of Lomond Shores into
the listed buildings of Cameron House and its
formal grounds.
Considering that unauthorised felling has
occurred and that this Order will enable
additional measures to be taken should any
further unauthorised work be carried out, it is
considered expedient to protect an area of
woodland between Lomond Shores and
Cameron House with a Tree Preservation Order
due to its contribution to the amenity of the
Drumkinnon Bay area and public interest in the
unauthorised felling.
The Order came into effect on 22 March 2018
and there is an opportunity to make comments
before a decision is made by the Planning &
Access Committee.
