Notice ID: SUT0486387
WANDSWORTH BOROUGH COUNCIL
RIVERSDALE SCHOOL
Notice is given in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that Wandsworth Borough Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to Riversdale Community Primary School, 302 Merton Road, London, SW18 5JP, from 1" September 2018 by the establishment of provision at the School reserved for children with special educational needs.
It is proposed to open a resource base for up to 20 pupils aged 3 to 11 with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and / or Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and announces the following detailed proposals for these purposes:
i) the children in the resource base will be additional to the School's admission number of 60 per year group;
ii) Wandsworth Local Authority will be the admissions authority. Admission to the base will be made on the basis of a child's educational needs as identified in their Education Health and Care Plan. The School's normal admission criteria will not apply;
iii) pupils in the base will be on the roll of Riversdale School and the School will be responsible for their educational provision and the management of the base;
iv) Wandsworth Council has agreed that the costs for the building adaptations will be met from the Department for Education's capital funding programme and will be in the region of £450,000. Pupils placed in the Base will receive revenue funding via the national funding formula in line with other pupils in the school. In addition the school will receive place funding and individual pupil top-up funding from the High Needs Block within the Dedicated Schools Grant.
This proposal will address a shortfall in provision for children with ASD and / or SLCN who would benefit from a mainstream curriculum and environment, but who need additional specialist support over and above that found in a mainstream primary school.
