Consultation On Promoting Organ Donation and Transplantation
The Department of Health would like to invite anyone with an interest in organ donation and transplantation to a public meeting about the consultation on a draft policy statement which sets out a new approach to promoting organ donation and transplantation.
Where: Fermanagh House, Enniskillen When: Tuesday 13 Feb 2018 Time: 18.45-21.00
A new statutory duty introduced by the Assembly in 2016 requires the Department to promote organ transplantation by providing information and increasing awareness about donation. The draft policy proposes a number of commitments through which this can be achieved by enabling structured engagement with all sections of society, in order to promote positive long term change to 2020 and beyond. It focuses on two key objectives:
? encouraging positive actions and behaviours in relation to organ donation, such as discussing our organ donation wishes with family and close friends, or joining the Organ Donor Register (ODR);and
? developing and providing appropriate awareness training for healthcare professionals
involved along the consent journey.
This is one of a series of public meetings being held across Northern Ireland and will give attendees the opportunity to put forward their views and ask questions. There will be a small team of senior policy officials from the Department along with senior clinicians and specialists nurses from Health and Social Care who will participate as panel members on the evening.
If you are unable to attend the public meeting and wish to contribute to the consultation information on how to respond can be found on the DOH website: https://www.health-ni.gov.uk/consultations
