THE A66 TRUNK ROAD(BOWES INTERCHANGE TO CUMBRIAN BORDER) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order
on the A66 Trunk Road, in County Durham, to enable drainage improvement works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start at 6am on Sunday 11 February 2018 for 2 weeks, or until comp eted.
The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to:
(i) impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound carriageway from 3400 metres east of the Cumbrian Border to 100 east of Clint Lane overbridge, a distance of 6400 metres;

(ii) close the gaps in the central reservation of the A66 eastbound carriageway approximately 5565 metres east, 5910 metres east, 6690 metres east, 7800 metres east and 9020 metres east of the Cumbrian Border;

(iii) close the bus stop area situated adjacent to the A66 eastbound carriageway approximately 9420 metres east of the Cumbrian Border;

(iv) close the layby situated adjacent to the A66 eastbound carriageway approximately 1055 metres east of the Cumbrian border, which will be used as an abnormal load holding area; and

(v) close the layby adjacent to the A66 eastbound carriageway approximately 4180 metres east of the Cumbrian Boarder, which will be used as an abnormal load holding area.

During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times. Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restriction (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles)and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for traffic officer or winter maintenance purposes). The Order comes into force on 10 February 2018 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
