THE A1(M) MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 59 TO JUNCTION 61) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A1(M) Motorway, in County Durham, to enable survey works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Monday 26 February 2018 for 5 weeks, or until completed, and will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am. The effect of the Order will be to close, at times during the works, the A1(M):
(i) northbound carriageway from 300 metres south of the southern overbridge at Junction 59 (Aycliffe Interchange) to 220 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction 60 (Bradbury Interchange), a distance of 9025 metres;

(ii) northbound carriageway from 260 metres south of the southern overbridge at Junction 60 to 270 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction 61 (Bowburn Interchange), a distance of 10120 metres;

(iii) southbound carriageway from 300 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction 61 to 260 metres south of the southern overbridge at Junction 60, a distance of 10160 metres;

(iv) southbound carriageway from 240 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction

60 to 260 metres south of the southern overbridge at Junction 59, a distance of

9010 metres;
(v) northbound entry and southbound exit slip roads at Junction 59;

(vi) northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 60; and

(vii) northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Junction 61.

The closures will only take place at any one time between Junction 59 and 60 or Junction 60 and Junction 61, during which times suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times. It wil also be necessary at times during the works, to impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the, A1(M):
(i) northbound carriageway from 3850 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction 59 to 1110 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction 61, a distance of 15120 metres; and

(ii) southbound carriageway from 2570 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction

61 to 4600 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction 59, a distance of 15850 metres.

During the works there will be lane closures during which times the hard shoulder will be used of traffic on the, A1(M):
(i) northbound carriageway from 4700 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction 59 to 270 metres north of the northern overbridge a t Junction 61, a distance of 13470 metres; and

(ii) southbound carriageway from 300 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction 61 to 4700 metres north of the northern overbridge at Junction 59, a distance of

13500 metres.
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the
restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 25 February 2018 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
