M27 AND M3 MOTORWAYS (NEAR SOUTHAMPTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the M27 and M3 Motorways in the County of Hampshire, and the Unitary Authority of the City of Southampton, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order is, in alternate phases, to:-
1. authorise the overnight closure of -

(a) both carriageways of the M27 between Junction 2 (A36) and Junction 5 (A335);

(b) the coast-bound carriageway of the M3 from the point the link road leading to the westbound carriageway of the M27 separates from the main carriageway; and

(c) all the slip/link roads leading to and from the lengths of carriageway in 1. (a) and (b) above.

2. impose an overnight 50 mph speed limit on the eastbound carriageway of the M27 between Junction 2 (A36) and Junction 3 (M271).

3. authorise overnight hard shoulder running on the length of carriageway described in 2. above.

These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway works, bridge works, drainage works, maintenance and all associated works. It is expected that the work will last for approximately 9 months starting on or after Tuesday 6 February 2018. The overnight closures will take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). The Order will come into force on 4 February 2018 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months. Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted using other junctions of the M3 or by using the
A27, A36, A335, A3057 and the A3090.
The temporary closures and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
