ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -SECTION 14 THE M56 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 6 WESTBOUND CARRIAGEWAY AND SLIP ROAD) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2018
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M56 Motorway, in the Borough of Trafford, in the County of Greater Manchester to enable carriageway repairs, replacement of road markings, and other general maintenance work; to be carried out in safety. The Order will:
(a) impose a 50 mph speed restriction on the M56 westbound carriageway, from a point 40 metres east of Thorley Lane Bridge, to a point 305 metres east of Castle Mill Lane Bridge.
(b) ban all traffic from the M56 westbound entry slip road at Junction 6.
(c) allow the hardshoulder adjacent to M56 westbound carriageway, from a point 50 metres west of the last point where the Junction 6 exit slip road leaves the carriageway, to a point 505 metres east of Castle Mill Lane Bridge, to be used as running lanes.
A 50 mph speed limit will be in force on the hardshoulder when used as a running lane. The works are expected to be in place overnight between 20:00 hours and 05:00 hours (continuing until 07:00 hours on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Thursday 15 February 2018 and ending on Thursday 1 March 2018. However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights or continue until completed. Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M56 Motorway and local roads will be well signed.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles and the prohibition will not apply to emergency services, works, winter maintenance, or traffic officer vehicles. The prohibition and restrictions will only apply during such times and to such extent as will be indicated by traffic signs.
