M4 MOTORWAY TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

M4 MOTORWAY TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the M4 Motorway in the Unitary Authorities of Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead, Reading, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Swindon, Bracknell Forest and Wiltshire, under Section 14(1)(a) and 14(1)(c) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:- 1. authorise the phased overnight closure of – (a) both carriageways of the M4 Motorway between Junction 5 (A4) and Junction 15 (A419/A346); and (b) all slip roads leading to and from the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) above. 2. authorise the phased overnight hard-shoulder running adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) above. 3. impose phased overnight 50mph speed limits on the lengths of carriageway and the slip roads described in 1. above. These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake Programmed Cyclical Maintenance (drainage, lighting, signage, inspections, surveys, maintenance and clearance of vegetation, litter picking and clearance, road sweeping, maintenance and clearance of injurious weeds). The duration of each closure would vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion. The programme of works would start on or after 1st January 2018. The overnight closures would be in operation between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). The Order would come into force on 1st January 2018 and shall remain in force until 23rd December 2018. During closures above, traffic affected would be diverted via other junctions of the M4, or by using the M25, A4, A33, A34, A308, A308(M), A322, A329(M), A338, A339, A355, A404(M), A419, A3044, A3113, A3290, A4155, B327 and the B4192. The diversion route would vary depending on the closure in place. The temporary speed limit, hard shoulder running, closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
