M4 MOTORWAY - NEAR READING TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the M4 Motorway in the Unitary Authorities of Reading and West Berkshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order would be to:-

(a) authorise the overnight use of, and impose an overnight 50mph speed restriction on (as required), the hard shoulder adjacent to the eastbound carriageway of the M4, between the west overbridge at Junction 12 (A4) and Burghfield Road overbridge;
(b) authorise the overnight suspension of the Motorway Regulations prohibiting use of the outside lane by HGVs, and impose an overnight 50mph speed restriction (as required), on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 between the A340 overbridge and Burghfield Road overbridge; and
(c) authorise the overnight closure of the slip road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the M4 at Junction 12 (A4).

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake bridge, drainage and carriageway works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 9 days starting on or after Monday 4 December 2017. The overnight closures, restrictions and suspensions would take place between 22:00 and 05:30 (maximum period). The Order would come into force on 2 December 2017 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months. Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using the A4, Rose Kiln Lane, and the A33. The temporary closures, mandatory speed limit, hard shoulder and outside lane usage suspensions, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
