A27 TRUNK ROAD (PATCHAM - LEWES) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex, and the Unitary Authority of The City of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order is to, in phases:-
(1)authorise the overnight closure of -
(a) the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at Patcham Interchange (B2123) and a point 50 metres east of the centreline of the Housedean Farm access overbridge;
(b) the westbound carriageway of the A27 between Ashcombe Roundabout (A277) and the entry slip road at Falmer
Interchange (A270);
(c) the slip roads leading to and from the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at Falmer Interchange (B2123);
(d) the slip road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at Patcham Interchange (A23);
(e) the slip roads leading to and from the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at Stanmer Heights Junction;
(f) the slip road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at Lewes Road Junction (A270);
(g) the road leading to the westbound carriageway of the A27 at Falmer Interchange (B2123);
(h) the dedicated slip road connecting to the westbound entry slip road from the southbound carriageway of the B2123 at Falmer Interchange (B2123);
(i) the footpath adjacent to the eastbound A27 between car park 5 at the University of Sussex Sports Centre and Knights Gate Road, including the connecting path from Southern Ring Road;
(j) the foot path adjacent to the eastbound A27 between Falmer Junction (B2123) (at its junction with Ridge Road) and Ashcombe Roundabout (A277); and
(k) the foot path adjacent to the westbound A27 between Ashcombe Roundabout (A277) and Falmer Junction (B2123).
2. authorise the 24 hour closure of the lay-bys adjacent to the carriageway -
(a) between points 300 metres and 520 metres west of Housedean Farm Access Bridge on the eastbound carriageway;
(b) between points 450 metres and 565 metres east of Housedean Farm Access Bridge on the westbound carriageway;
(c) between points 350 metres and 380 metres east of the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road of the westbound carriageway at Falmer Junction (B2123); and
(d) between points 380 metres and 550 metres south of the entry slip road on the eastbound carriageway at Stanmer Heights Junction.
3. impose an overnight 40mph speed limit on the westbound carriageway of the A27 between a point a point 245 metres west of the centreline of the Housedean Farm access overbridge and a point 30 metres east of the centreline of the A270 underbridge.
These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway works and all associated works. It is expected that the work will last for approximately 2 weeks starting on or after Monday 13th November 2017. The overnight closures will take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). The Order will come into force on 11th November 2017 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months. Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted using other junctions of the A27, or the A23, A26, A259 and Coldean Lane. The diversion route will vary depending on the closure in place. The East Sussex (Peacehaven and Telscombe Cliffs Town Zone and cordon) (7.5 Tonne Weight Restriction) Order 1993 will be suspended overnight during the works as described above. Access to and from premises accessible from, and only from, the carriageways described in 1. above will be permitted by escort.
The temporary speed limit, closures and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
