THE A64 TRUNK ROAD (STEELMOOR LANE JUNCTION TO ONHAMS LANE JUNCTION) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A64 Trunk Road, in the District of Ryedale, to enable construction of a new junction, farm access and footpath, including resurfacing, road marking and studs, drainage and routine maintenance works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Monday 6 November 2017 for 5 months, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be to impose, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works a temporary 50mph and at times a 10mph speed restriction on the:
(i) A64 eastbound carriageway from 700 metres west of Steelmoor Lane Junction to Onhams Lane Junction, a distance of 4125 metres; and

(ii) A64 westbound carriageway from Onhams Lane Junction to 700 metres west of Steelmoor Lane Junction, a distance of 4125 metres.

The 10mph speed restriction will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle.
It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works to:
(iii) close the A64 eastbound carriageway as described in (i); during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;

(iv) close the A64 westbound carriageway as described in (ii); during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;

(v) close the gaps in the central reservation adjacent to the lengths of road as described in (i) and (ii);

(vi) ban vehicles from entering or leaving the A64 at its junction with Mains Lane, Slingsby Hovingham, the unnamed road leading to Barton Hill and Foston Lane; and

(vii) close the bus stop area and footway adjacent to the A64 eastbound carriageway approximately 35 metres east of Mains Lane Junction.

During the closures suitable signed alternative routes will be available at all times. Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works, to anyone engaged in the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A64. The Order comes into force on 5 November 2017 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
