ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -SECTION 14 THE M53 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 2-4 NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAYS AND SLIP ROADS) [TEMPORARY PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2017 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M53 Motorway in the Borough of Wirral in the County of Merseyside to enable bridge repair works, and other general maintenance works, to be carried out in safety.
a) The Order will impose a 50 mph speed restriction on the following sections of the M53 Motorway:
i. the southbound carriageway from a point 700 metres south of the centreline of Upton Road Overbridge, to a point 400 metres south of the centreline of Woodchurch South overbridge;
ii. the northbound carriageway from a point 700 metres north of the centreline of Storeton Hall Farm overbridge, to a point 400 metres north of the centreline of Woodchurch North overbridge;
iii. the southbound entry slip road at junction 3 from its start, to a point 400 metres south of the centreline of Woodchurch South overbridge;
iv. the northbound entry slip road at junction 3 from its start, to a point 400 metres north of the centreline of Woodchurch North overbridge;
v. the northbound and southbound exit slip roads at junction 3;
b) The Order will ban all traffic from the following sections of the M53 Motorway:
i. the northbound carriageway from the last point where the junction 4 exit slip road leaves the carriageway, to the first point where the junction 3 entry slip road joins the carriageway;
ii. the southbound carriageway from the last point where the junction 2 exit slip road leaves the carriageway, to the first point where the junction 3 entry slip road joins the carriageway;
iii. the southbound entry slip road at junction 2;
iv. the northbound exit slip roads at junction 3;
v. the southbound exit slip road at junction 3;
vi. the northbound entry slip road at junction 4. Prohibitions b) i- vi are expected to be in place overnight between 2100 hours and 0600 hours, during a period starting on Friday 8 September 2017 and ending on Thursday 31 May 2018.
However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights or continue until completed. Prohibitions b) iv and v are expected to be in place overnight at weekends between 2100 hours and 0600 hours, during a period starting on Friday 8 September 2017 and ending on Thursday 31 May 2018. Restriction (a) is expected to be in place during a continuous period starting at 0600 hours on Friday 8 September 2017 and ending at 0600 hours on Thursday 31 May 2018. However, work may start and continue until completed. Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M53 Motorway and local roads will be well signed. The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles. The prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, winter maintenance, or traffic officer vehicles. The prohibitions and restrictions will only apply during such times and to such extent as will be indicated by traffic signs. The Order comes into force on Thursday 7 September 2017 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
