ENVIRONMENT AGENCY Water Resources Act 1991 (asamended by the Water Act 2003) Noticeof application for two impoundment licences
The Environment Agencyare applying to the SecretaryofStatefor Environment,Food andRural Affairsfor two licencestoimpound water. The Environment Agencyisgiving notice of this application,inaccordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act1991 andParagraph2of Schedule2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The applications are to impound waterinthe Eller Beck and theWaller Hill Beck(also known as Skibenden Beck) near Skipton, North Yorkshire at National GridReferencesSD99389 52972 and SE 00920 52274.Both impoundments are designed to holdback water in a1 in 100yearfloodevent.

The EllerBeckimpoundment includesanearth
embankment not exceeding 143.4 metres above ordnance datum in height complete with flood spillway and aculvert with apenstock. Flows will be
unrestrictedtopass downstream of theEller Beck
impoundment in normal (non-flood) conditions. The flood storage area (reservoir) resulting fromthe impoundingworks shallbeused only for temporary storage of flood waterwith atotal capacity of
433,205 cubic metres.
The Waller Hill Beckimpoundment includesanearth
embankment not exceeding149.6 metresabove ordnancedatum in heightcomplete withflood spillway and aculvert with an orifice plate.Flows will be restricted to 1.5cubic metres per second
downstreamofthe WallerHillBeck impoundment.
The flood storage area (reservoir) resulting from the impoundingworksshallbeused only fortemporary storage of flood waterwith atotal capacity of 72,465
cubic metres.

Team,Quadrant 2, 99 Parkway Avenue,Sheffield, S9 4WF or by emailtopsc-waterresources@ environment-agency.gov.uk by 17th August 2017. After the 17th August 2017,the Environment Agency willbeabletogrant alicence authorising the
proposal. The licence shall be viewed as granted,
unless the SecretaryofState, eitherasa result of any
representations madeabout theproposalor otherwise, instructs or asksfor an applicationtobe madetothem.
