ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -SECTION 14
THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (NORTH STAINMORE TO BOWES INTERCHANGE) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the County of Cumbria and County Durham, to enable carriageway resurfacing and road marking works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start at 8pm on Tuesday 4 July 2017 for 11 weeks, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, during the works period, to:
(i) close the A66 eastbound carriageway, including the gaps in the central reservation, from 6325 metres east of the A685 Brough Interchange underbridge to a point

500 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge, a distance of 14700 metres; during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system; and
(ii) ban traffic from entering or leaving the A66 at Barras Junction.

During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available. It will also be necessary, during the works period, to now impose a temporary 50mph, 30mph and at times a 10mph speed restriction, and to close the laybys adjacent to, the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageways from 2100 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge to 3325 metres east of the A685 Brough Interchange underbridge, a distance of 19300 metres. The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle. Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A66. The Order comes into force on 3 July 2017 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
