THE M66 MOTORWAY/A56 TRUNK ROAD (JUNCTION 1 NORTHBOUND & SOUTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAYS AND SLIP ROADS) [TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2017
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M66 Motorway and A56 Trunk Road in the Boroughs of Bury and Rossendale, in the Counties of Lancashire and Greater Manchester, to enable resurfacing, including high friction surfacing, renewal of road markings, road studs, traffic detector loops, lighting, and bridge joints, crack and barrier repair works, and other general maintenance works; to be carried out in safety.
a) The Order will ban all traffic from the following sections of the M66 Motorway and A56 Trunk Road:
i. the northbound carriageway, from the last point where the M66 Junction 1 exit slip road leaves the carriageway, to the first point where the entry slip road from the A56 roundabout with the A680/B6527 (Bent Gate) joins the A56 northbound carriageway;
ii. the southbound carriageway, from the last point where the exit slip road to the roundabout with the A680/B6527 (Bent Gate) leaves the A56 carriageway, to the first point where the M66 Junction 1 entry slip road joins the M66 southbound carriageway;
iii. the A56 northbound entry slip road from its roundabout with the A676 Bolton Road North;
iv. the A56 southbound exit slip road to Its roundabout with the A676 Bolton Road North;
v. the A56 northbound exit slip road to its roundabout with the A680/B6527 (Bent Gate);
vi. the A56 southbound entry slip road from its roundabout with the A680/B6527 (Bent Gate);
vii. the A56 northbound exit slip road leading from its junction with the A682/New Hall Hey Road;
viii. the A56 southbound entry slip road leading to the A682/New Hall Hey Road.
b) The Order will also ban all traffic from the laybys adjacent to the following sections of the A56 Trunk Road:
i. the northbound carriageway at a point 100 metres north of the centreline of Langley House overbridge;
ii. the southbound carriageway, at a point 65 metres north of the centreline of Church Lane overbridge.
During the road closures, cyclists and buses will not be permitted to use the carriageways and/or slip roads as described at a) above. Prohibitions a) are expected to take place overnight between 2000 hours and 0500 hours (continuing to 0700 hours on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Friday 21 July 2017 and ending on Friday 25 August 2017. However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights until completed. Prohibitions b) are expected to be in place during a continuous period starting at 2000 hours on Friday 21 July 2017 and ending at 0500 hours on Friday 25 August 2017. However, work may start and continue beyond these dates until completed. Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M66 Motorway/A56 Trunk Road and local roads will be well signed. The prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works or traffic officer vehicles, and will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.
