M3 MOTORWAY JUNCTIONS 5-7 (NEAR BASINGSTOKE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the M3 Motorway in the County of Hampshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-
a) authorise the phased overnight closure of;
i) both carriageways of the M3 between Junction 5 (A287) and Junction 7 (A30);
ii) the road leading to the coast-bound carriageway of the M3 at Junction 5 (A287/B3349);
iii) the roads leading to and from both carriageways of the M3 at Junction 6 (A339);
iv) both carriageways of the A339 spur road linking Junction 6 (A339) to Black Dam Roundabout (A30/A339); and
v) the road leading from the coast-bound carriageway of the M3 at Junction 7 (A30);
b) impose a 24-hour 50 mph speed limit on;
i) the carriageways described in a) i) above;
ii) the roads leading to both carriageways of
the M3 at Junction 6 (A339); and
iii) the hard shoulder adjacent to the carriageways described in a) i) above; when they are not closed;
c) impose a 24-hour 40 mph speed limit on;
i) the roads leading from both carriageways
of the M3 at Junction 6 (A339);
ii) both carriageways of the M3 spur road connecting Junction 6 (A339) of the M3 to
Black Dam Roundabout (A30/A339); and
iii) the entire length of the roundabout at Junction 6 of the M3 (A339);
when they are not closed;
d) restrict, over periods of 24 hours:-
i) the width of vehicles to 3.25 metres on lane 1, 3.0 metres on lane 2, and 2.5 metres on lane 3 in the carriageways described in a) i) above; and
ii) the width of vehicles to 3.25 metres on lane 1, and 2.75 metres on lane 2 of the roundabout described in c) iii) above; when they are not closed; and
e) permit hard shoulder running adjacent to the carriageways described in a) i) above when they are not closed.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake structures maintenance, technology works, resurfacing, road marking, reinstallation of studs and loops, safety fence and barrier maintenance, signage works, drainage and all associated work.
It is expected that the work would last for
approximately 10 months starting on or after
Wednesday 31st May 2017. The overnight
closures would take place between 21:00
and 06:00 (maximum period).
The Order would come into force on
29 May 2017 and have a maximum duration
of eighteen months.
Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted via other junctions on the M3, and using the A287, A30, and A339. The closures, speed limits, width restrictions and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
