LEIGH COMMON, WIMBORNE THE COMMONS ACT 2006
Notice ID: BOU0131643
LEIGH COMMON, WIMBORNE THE COMMONS ACT 2006
GLEESON DEVELOPMENTS LIFTED has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on LEIGH COMMON.
The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The proposed works will be carried out in the highway verge on the north side of Leigh Road and consent is required under the Commons Act 2006 only because the parts of the highway verge affected are also registered as common land. The works comprise:
- creation of a new access road to provide pedestrian, cycle and vehicular access to a new housing development on land to the south of Leigh Road. This proposed development has the benefit of a resolution by East Dorset District Council to grant planning permission for up to 305 new homes, of which 28% will be affordable homes. Details of the application can be viewed online via www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/planning and by entering application reference 3/15/0789/COU.
* The junction between the new access road and Leigh Road requires the widening of part of Leigh Road to create a new signal-controlled junction and crossing. This widening will be carried out entirely within the existing adopted highway carriageway or verge.
? The existing tarmac footway on the northern side of Leigh Road will be widened to create a combined footway/cycleway (incorporating the existing footway) which will improve safety for pedestrians and access and encourage greater access to the common.
¦ The works will cover an area of 870.01 sqm alongside Leigh Road. The road widening will affect only 121.62m of Leigh Road and the widened footway/ cycleway will be provided for a total length of 166.20m.
