Statutory Notice of Dissolution
Notice is hereby given by the Corporation of The Sixth Form College Farnborough in accordance with the provisions of the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 as amended by the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 and the Education Act 2011 ("the Act") of the proposal that the Corporation of The Sixth Form College Farnborough, Prospect Avenue, Farnborough, Hampshire, GU14 8JX be dissolved and the property, rights, assets and liabilities of The Sixth Form College Farnborough be transferred to a multi-academy trust to be established and provisionally known as The Prospect Trust.
Dissolution of The Sixth Form College Farnborough is proposed at the request of the Corporation in order that The Sixth Form College Farnborough can convert to a 16-19 academy. Corporation members believe this proposal will enable the College to take the lead on local improvement initiatives, building on work already underway, to formalise alliances with local schools converting to academy status, including in due course those from secondary and primary phases. The ability to join the larger and growing academy sector provides potentially more opportunities and benefits than would be available if we were to remain as part of a shrinking sixth form college sector.
The Sixth Form College Farnborough provides education for around 3,650 16-19 year old students, all of whom are full-time. The specialist and highly successful nature of the curriculum offer has led to recruitment increasing year on year. Examination performance is a major attraction to students and parents; success rates and value-added measures show outstanding achievement by College students across many subjects.
The curriculum offer is geared to the largely Higher Education related aspirations of students in our community, although increasingly there are a significant number who are intending to go on to either apprenticeships or employment. At Level 2 the offer gives much greater emphasis on progression routes into Further Education or employment as well as offering progression on to Level 3 courses.
The proposed date for the dissolution of The Sixth Form College Farnborough as a sixth form college and the creation of The Sixth Form College Farnborough as a 16-19 academy is 1 September 2017 (or as soon as possible thereafter). All students currently attending The Sixth Form College Farnborough will continue their education in the new 16-19 academy.
A copy of the proposal and a consultation document relating to the proposal is available free of charge at www.farnborough.ac.uk/about-academyconsultation or by requesting a copy via email to consultation® farnborough.ac.uk and will be sent to any person who requests it.
In accordance with the provisions of the Act, consultation on these proposals will run from noon on 20 March 2017 to 28 April 2017. All responses and representations must be made by noon on 28 April 2017. A summary of the consultation and its outcome will be published within two months from the end of the consultation period and the summary will be available free of charge to anyone who requests it.
