ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14
THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (BOWES INTERCHANGE TO SCOTCH CORNER INTERCHANGE) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the County of North Yorkshire and County Durham, to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Sunday 22 January 2017 for 2 weeks, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be to impose, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works a temporary:
(i) 10mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageways from 260 metres west of Rutherford Lane Junction to 364 metres east of Abbey Lane Junction, a distance of 4,044 metres; and
(ii) 40mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageways from 1,405 metres west of Boldron Junction to 300 metres west of Low Lane Junction, a distance of 10,001 metres.
The 10mph speed restriction will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle. It will be necessary, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to:
(i) close the A66 eastbound carriageway from Rutherford Lane Junction to 280 metres east of its junction with the B6277, a distance of 816 metres; during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;
(ii) close the A66 westbound carriageway from 281 metres east of its junction with the B6277 to Rutherford Lane Junction, a distance of 812 metres; during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;
(iii) close the A66 eastbound carriageway from Abbey Lane Junction eastwards for a distance of 136 metres; during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;
(iv) close the A66 westbound carriageway from Abbey Lane Junction westwards for a distance of 134 metres; during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;
(v) close the A66 eastbound entry slip road at Rokeby Junction;
(vi) ban vehicles from entering or leaving the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageways at their junctions with the B6277, Moorhouse Lane, Abbey Lane, the unnamed access road leading to the B6277 and the unnamed access road adjacent to Moorhouse Lane; and
(vii) close the gaps in the A66 central reserve at and between Cross Lanes Junction and Rokeby Junction.
During the closures suitable signed alternative routes will be available. It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, for the duration of the works, to close the laybys adjacent to the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageway from 300 metres west of Scotch Corner Roundabout to 800 metres west of the eastbound exit slip road at Bowes Interchange, a distance of 25, 423 metres; with the following laybys to be used as abnormal load holding areas:
(i) Thorpe Grange layby approximately 1380 metres east of The Street (Greta Bridge Junction);
(ii) Sedbury layby approximately 300 metres west of Scotch Corner Roundabout; and
(iii) Snow Gate layby approximately 800 metres west of the eastbound exit slip road at Bowes Interchange.
Traffic management other than at layby closures will be in force between 8pm and 6am and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A66. The Order comes into force on 21 January 2017 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (LONG NEWTON INTERCHANGE TO YARM INTERCHANGE)
(TEMPORARY 50 MILES PER HOUR SPEED RESTRICTION) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the District of Stockton on Tees, to enable environmental barrier works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Monday 23 January 2017 for 5 days, or until completed, and will take place between 10am and 4pm. The effect of the Order will be to impose, at times during the works, a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound carriageway from 645 metres west of Yarm Interchange over bridge to 950 metres west of the entry slip road at Elton Interchange, for a distance of 2950 metres. Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restriction (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles). The Order comes in to force on 22 January 2017 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
