The RSPB has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on The Portland Urban
District Common.
The proposed works are: (i) a temporary small observation hide of 4.41m2; (ii) a temporary electric fence covering 675m in length and 1.82ha; (iii) a temporary outer single interpretation line of
1,193m in length.
The works will be located on Chesil Beach, about 400m to the north east of the Chesil Beach Centre at the site occupied by a breeding colony of little terns between April and August each year.
Visitors to the common can still access the full length of the beach while the works are in place.
A copy of the application form and map showing the proposed works can be inspected at the Chesil Beach Centre between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm everyday until the 28th day of October 2011.
Any objections or representations should be sent in writing ON or BEFORE that date to the Planning Inspectorate at Room 4/05, Kite Wing, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1
6PN or CommonLandCasework@pins.gsi.gov.uk.
Letters sent to the Planning Inspectorate cannot be treated as confidential.
They will be copied to the applicant and possibly to other interested parties.
