Reconstruction of the quay wall and capital dredging
of Port of Southampton berths 201 and 202
(DC8591) and (DC8590)
Notice is hereby given that: Associated British Ports (“the Applicant”), Ocean Gate, Atlantic Way, Southampton SO14 3QN. Has made applications for licences and
consents for regulated activity under the following legislation: • Part II of the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 which provided powers to deposit substances and articles in the sea. Under
Schedule 9, Part 3(4) of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, an application made before the commencement of 6th April 2011 has effect as if it were an application for a marine licence.
• Section 34 of the Coast Protection Act 1949 which provided powers to restrict works which are detrimental to navigation. Under Schedule 9, Part 2(4) of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, an
application made before the commencement of 6th April 2011 has effect as if it were an application for a marine licence.
• Sections 15 and 21 of the British Transport Docks Act 1966 which provide powers to dredge and carry out tidal works in Southampton waters.
• Section 3 of the Southampton Harbour Act 1911 which provides powers to dredge in Southampton waters. The applications seek permission to reconstruct the existing berths of 201 and 202 in the
Western Docks at the Port of Southampton in order to provide a deep-water berth. A new 500 metre (m) long steel combi-wall will be constructed 3-5m seaward of the existing quay wall alignment. The
dredged pockets of the berths will be subsequently deepened from -10.2 and -12.2m Chart Datum (“CD”) to -16m CD requiring the disposal at sea of approximately 182,000m3 of dredged material. A copy
of the application, environmental statement and further information provided by the Applicant (“the Consultation Documents”) may be obtained:
• electronically at www.southamptonvts.co.uk and/or www.marinemanagement.org.uk/licensing/public_register/ eia/es.htm;
• in hard copy from the Applicant for a fee of £40 or from the Marine Management Organisation (“MMO”) at the address given below for a charge not exceeding a reasonable amount for copying;
and
• by inspection during normal office hours free of charge for a period of 42 days beginning the date of this first notice from 12th January 2012 at either of the following locations: Associated
British Ports, Ocean Gate, Atlantic Way,
Eastern Docks, Southampton SO14 3QN.

in respect of the Consultation Documents should be made in writing to the MMO’s address above or alternatively please email them to victoria.morgan@marinemanagement.org.uk, within 42 days beginning
the date of the first notice (Thursday 12 January 2012), quoting reference DC8590 and DC8591 and giving an address to which the related correspondence may be sent. The MMO will pass a copy of any
objection or representation received to the Applicant.
