Port of Southampton Approach Channel Dredge (DC 8589)


Notice is hereby given that Associated British Ports of Ocean Gate, Atlantic Way, Southampton SO14 3QN, has applied to the Marine Management Organisation for licences and consents for a regukated activity under the following legislation:


1) Part II of the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 [Under Schedule 9, Part 3(4) of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 an application made before the commencement of 6th April 2011 has effect as if it were an application for a Marine Licence.]

2) Section 34 of the Coast Protection Act 1949 [Under Schedule 9, Part 2(4) of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 an application made before the commencement of 6th April 2011 has effect as if it were an application for a Marine Licence.]

3) Consent under section 3 of the Southampton Harbour Act 1911

The application seeks permission (i) to deepen and widen the approach channel to the Port of Southampton at various locations between the Nab Channel and Berth 207 and (ii) for the associated disposal of the dredged material at sea.

A copy of the application, environmental statement and further information provided by the Applicant ("the Consultation Documents") may be obtained:


electronically at www.southamptonvts.co.uk and/or http://www.marinemanagement.org.uk/licensing/public_register.htm;


in hard copy from the Applicant for a fee of £40 or from the Marine Management Organisation ("MMO") at the address given below for a charge not exceeding a reasonable amount for copying; and

by inspection during normal office hours free of charge for a period of 42 days beginning the date of this first notice [1 November] at either of the following locations: Southampton Central Library, Civic Centre, Southampton, SO14 7LW, and at the offices of Associated British Ports, Ocean Gate, Atlantic Way, Eastern Docks, Southampton, SO14 3QN, or alternatively by prior appointment at the offices of the: Marine Management Organisation, Marine Licensing Team, Lancaster House, Newcastle Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne NE99 5BN. Prior appointment to inspect the Consultation Documents can be arranged by calling the MMO on tel. 0300 123 1032.

Representations or objections in respect of the application should be made in writing, giving an addresstowhich correspondencerelating tothe representation or objection may be sent, to the Marine Management Organisation, Marine Licensing Team, Lancaster House, Newcastle Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne NE99 5BN or alternatively emailed to victoria.morgan@marinemanagement.org.uk, by 13th December, quoting reference DC 8589.

The Marine Management Organisation will pass to the applicant a copy of any objection or representation received.
