PUBLIC NOTICE BOROUGH OF POOLE APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT PERSONS

The Borough of Poole is required by the Localism Act 2011 to appoint an Independent Person to assist it in promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct by Councillors and co-opted members of the Council. In particular, the views of the Independent Person is to be sought by the Council before it makes decisions, on an allegation that it has decided to investigate, as to whether a Councillor has breached the Members Code of Conduct. The Independent Person's views may also be sought by the person complained against. The Independent Person may also be consulted by the Council on other 'standards of conduct matters.

The Council will provide information about any travel and subsistence costs that are available for the Independent Person. In addition to being called upon to give a view on matters which have been investigated, it is possible that the Independent Person may be invited to attend meetings of the Council's Standards Committee.
