BRIGHTON AND HOVE CITY COUNCIL is exercising their powers under Sections 16A to 16C of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) together with all other enabling powers, hereby make the following Order.
On 14th April 2013 the 2013 Brighton Marathon will be taking place across the city. The Brighton Marathon starts from Preston Park and from Withdean Park (2 start lines) at 09.00hrs with Road closures taking place from 06.00hrs. Runners will proceed from Preston Park south bound on the Preston Road and London Road turning into the Laines at North Road and returning on to the Old Steine via North Street. They will continue up to the Level and return again on the Old Steine to St James Street. Then heading East into Kemptown and cutting down onto Marine Parade / Drive as far as Ovingdean. Runners will turn North into Ovingdean and loop back to A259 Marine Drive and out to Rottingdean. Then heading West bound back along A259 Marine Parade / Drive and on to Kings Road turning north at Grand Avenue. Runners will then head West along Church Road into New Church Road and follow a short loop at Boundary Road. Returning back again to Grand Avenue then South bound on to A259 Kingsway and West to Basin Road. At this point runners head along Basin Road south looping back so runners continue on the footway known as Hove Esplanade / Hove lawns. At the peace statue runners return onto the road and head east along Kings Road and then into Madeira Drive to the finish area.
A large amount of roads in the City will be affected between 06.00hrs until 17.00hrs on the day of this event so please allow sufficient time for journeys across the City. The event organisers "The Grounded Events Company" have sent out information packs to residents across the city with a full list of roads affected and time of closures on the route. No person shall cause or permit any vehicle that is not participating in, or connected with the Brighton Marathon to proceed in, exit from, or turn into any of the lengths of road on the Brighton Marathon Route, except upon the direction or with the permission of a Police Constable in uniform or that of a uniformed marshal between the hours of 06.00 hours and 22.00 hours on Sunday 14th April 2013; No parking, waiting, loading or unloading of a vehicle to take place on any of the lengths of carriageway on the Brighton Marathon Route to this Order and which constitute the Brighton Marathon Route between the hours of 18.00hrs on Saturday 13th April 2013 and 22.00hrs on Sunday 14th April 2013:-
