Gates, fences and walls in The Knoll (Orpington)

The London Borough of Bromley has confirmed a direction made under article 4(1) of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (ref. 02/11/2022). The direction restricts the erection or construction of a gate, fence, wall or other means of enclosure in The Knoll Area of Special Residential Character.

From 14 February 2023 part of the permitted development right under class A of part 2 of schedule 2 to the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 will cease to apply in that area. From that date anyone wishing to erect or construct a gate, fence, wall or other means of enclosure in that area will have to obtain planning permission first by applying to the Council. Doing the work without planning permission may result in enforcement action.

The permitted development right to maintain, improve or alter a gate, fence, wall or other means of enclosure will continue to apply.
