Speed Limits Order No 1 2023
Notice is hereby given that the Isle of Wight Council in exercise of their powers under section 82, 83, 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and with all other enabling power and after consultation with The Chief Officer of Police proposed to make an order, the effect of which will be:
1. To enact the provisions within this order subject to the following amendments:
2. To introduce a 40mph speed limit in the following lengths of road:
a) Racecourse, Newport - between a point 255 metres north-east to a point 720 metres north-east of its junction with Mill Lane.
3. To revoke the 50mph speed restriction along the following length of road:
b) Racecourse, Newport - between a point 255 metres north-east to a point 720 metres north-east of its junction with Mill Lane.
4. No speed limit imposed by this order applies to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those regulations.
The amendments are being proposed to facilitate the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians) and for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising.
A copy of the draft Order, this Notice and the relevant plan may be inspected between normal office hours at the Customer Service Centre, County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight during the objection period.
