Junction 37 Killington Interchange) (Temporary Traffic Regulation) Order 2023
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable National Highways to carry out bridge repair works ("the Works"), the County Council of Cumbria has made an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle:-
1. From proceeding long that section of the A684 Sedbergh from its junction with the U5637 extending in an overall south easterly direction for approx. 1.4km.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times and a suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available as follows:-
South east bound traffic: via the unrestricted section of the A684 (Kendal), Ann Street, Wildman Street, Stramongate, New Road, Aynam Road, Netherfield Bridge, Milnthorpe Road, A591, A590, A65 (Kirkby Stephen), A683 and the remaining unrestricted section of the A684.
West bound traffic: via the unrestricted section of the A684, A683 (Kirkby Stephen), A65, A590, A591, Milnthorpe Road, Kirkland, High Gate, Lowther Street, New Road, Blackhall Road, Sandes Avenue, Station Road, Wildman Street, Castle Street and the remaining unrestricted section of the A684 (Junction 37).
2. For proceeding at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour along that section of the A684 Sedbergh for approx. 1 km either side of the centre of the Junction 37 M6 motorway bridge.
N.B. The 40 miles per hour speed restriction will operate where work is ongoing but the contractor's operatives and plant are not on site. It is required to protect road users passing through restricted width traffic lanes.
No speed limit imposed by this Order will apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.
Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:
1. Apply to emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and
2. Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and
3. Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the road, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the road; and
4. Apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Works. Any queries to the Highways Hotline 0300 303 2992 or via the Cumbria County Council website. The reference to quote is

The Order will come into operation on 14 January 2023 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required on the dates below between the hours of 2000 and 0600 and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
