Notice of Proposed Works on Common Land Clapton Common Parish of Hackney Borough of Hackney County of London

The London Borough of Hackney is applying to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under Article 12 of the Greater London Parks and Open Spaces Order 1967 to carry out restricted works on Hackney Downs.

The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State. The proposed works are:

* Refurbishment and expansion of the park's play area by 363m2

* Replacement and realignment of the play area's existing fencing to enclose an additional 92m2

* Realignment of an existing path within the play area resulting in an increase of 6m2 of hard standing

* Expansion of an existing mound by 129m2 and an increase in its height up to 0.75m from ground level

* The play area expansion will include a range of play equipment including swings and climbing structures, seating and planting. Plans can be viewed on the parks webpage

* The proposals also include the use of 664m2 of rubber matrix tiles, which will be positioned under the play equipment as a safety surface. The tiles will allow grass to grow through them
