M25 Motorway & A2 And A282 Trunk Roads Temporary Traffic Restrictions

Notice is hereby given that National Highways has made an Order on the M25 Motorway and A2 and A282 Trunk Roads in the County of Kent and the Unitary Authority of Thurrock, under Sections 14(1)(a), 14(1)(c) and 14(7) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order is, in phases, to:-

1. authorise the overnight closure of -

(a) sections of both carriageways of the M25 and A282 between Junction 30 (A13) and Junction 2 (A2);

(b) both carriageways of the A2 between Black Prince Interchange (A223) and Bean Interchange (B255);

(c) both carriageways of the A2 between Bean Interchange (B255) and M2 Junction 1;

(d) any slip and link road leading to and from the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) to (c) above;

(e) the circulatory system at Junction 2 (A2);

(f) the hard shoulder adjacent to the lengths of carriageway and slip roads in 1. (a) and (b) above; and

(g) any lay-by or bus-stop adjacent to the lengths of carriageway and slip roads in 1. (b) and (c) above.

2. authorise the overnight use of the hard shoulder adjacent to the lengths of carriageway and slip roads described in 1. (a) to (d) above.

3. permit HGVs in the outside lane of the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) above, during inside-lane closures.

4. to impose, in sections as required, an overnight ban on overtaking on both carriageways of the A2 where it is currently permitted on the length of carriageway described in 1. (c) above.

These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake maintenance and renewal work of a cyclical nature and M25,
A2 and A282 project works.
The duration of each closure will vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion. The programme of works will start on or after 3rd January 2023.
The overnight closures on the M25, A2 between Black Prince Interchange and Bean Interchange and the A282 will be in operation between (maximum period):

Monday - Thursdays 22:00 - 05:30

Fridays 23:00 - 06:00

Saturdays 22:00 - 06:00

Sundays 22:30 - 05:30

The overnight closures on the A2 between Bean Interchange and M2 Junction 1 will take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). Planned maintenance work will be scheduled to avoid disruption during known peak periods, although essential maintenance may be necessary during these periods to prevent the need for emergency works. In such cases less disruptive options will be considered. The Order will come into force on 2nd January 2023 and shall remain in force until 24th December 2023.
Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted via other junctions of the M25, A2 and A282, or by using the A13, A223, A225, A282, A289, A296, A2018, B259, B2174 and Brewer's Road. The diversion in operation will vary according to the closure in force, and the diversion routes listed above are the agreed routes, but these may change depending on local conditions.
The temporary closures, hard shoulder and HGV outside lane running, overtaking ban and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
